BOCES 3D printing masks for health care facilities, first responders

Ilion Fire Chief Tom Pedersen said with the coronavirus outbreak, the village’s first responders have started taking extra steps to be prepared. This includes wearing masks and two sets of plastic gloves as well as bright yellow Tyvek suits over their uniforms if they receive a medical call for someone showing symptoms of COVID-19 – which include fever, tiredness and dry cough.

Other precautions include performing temperature checks on employees three times a day. “We’re taking the extra precaution and wearing [N95] masks on every call now,” said Pedersen. BOCES announced Monday it will donate 3D printed masks made with the help of staff members and their families to health care facilities and first responders after learning of a local need for personal protective equipment through special education coordinator Kelly Rowland’s sister Patricia Zink at Bassett Health Center Herkimer.
