Ilion Fire Chief Tom Pedersen said with the coronavirus outbreak, the village’s first responders have started taking extra steps to be prepared. This includes wearing masks and two sets of plastic gloves as well as bright yellow Tyvek suits over their uniforms if they receive a medical call for someone showing symptoms of COVID-19 – which include fever, tiredness and dry cough.

Other precautions include performing temperature checks on employees three times a day. “We’re taking the extra precaution and wearing [N95] masks on every call now,” said Pedersen.
