Morrison government looks to nanosatellites, 3D printing to boost manufacturing

Industry Minister Karen Andrews says nanosatellites, 3D printing and food processing could be the future focus of Australian manufacturing, as she warns the economically critical sector “can’t continue to try and be all things to all people”.

Ms Andrews will convene a high-powered meeting with some of the country’s biggest manufacturers on Wednesday, including Dow Chemical, Ford, BAE Systems and BlueScope Steel, along with the CSIRO and business groups. 3D printing could be the future of Australian manufacturing.Credit:Dominic Lorrimer Ms Andrews, who was reappointed Industry Minister after the May election, said she wants advice about where Australia’s manufacturing sector should be in the next ten years. “Australia will always be a manufacturing nation.
